HOUSTON, June 30, 2011 - Houston brand experience firm, BrandExtract, LLC, partnered with Marathon Oil Corporation to create a new company brand as it prepares to become an independent upstream company with the spin-off of its downstream business expected to be effective tonight. With members of the firm having worked with Marathon for more than 10 years managing its online presence, BrandExtract was a natural fit to assist in the effort to rebrand the company.

The rebranding process began by working with Marathon's investor relations and public affairs group and senior leadership to engage its employees. Surveys were conducted to gather employee input on what they thought the company's new logo should reflect. That helped BrandExtract and Marathon determine the look, feel and voice of the new brand, which ultimately focuses on exploring new opportunities with the same energy, drive and focus Marathon has always displayed.
Marathon Oil unveiled its new brand today, which will include the July 1 launch of a completely redesigned website managed by BrandExtract's SAM site management software.
