Marathon Oil increases reporting efficiency with dynamic charts to inform investors on corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance.
The upstream company has offered a custom data-mining feature on its website for years, but the new system streamlines the reporting process for Marathon Oil content managers. Developed by Houston-based branding firm BrandExtract, the platform is projected to save Marathon Oil about $75,000 over five years.
Kathleen Sauvé, Manager, Corporate Communications and Philanthropy, Marathon Oil, noted, “Social responsibility is a key tenet of Marathon Oil’s commitment to sustainability. The new platform makes it easier than ever to report on our performance, and in a more engaging way.”
Previously, generating reports was a manual and time-consuming process, costing roughly $15,000 a year. A dynamic platform allows Marathon Oil to eliminate that expense and position itself against an even more productive backdrop.
“Marathon Oil is the only upstream player of its size that’s embraced this level of reporting for social responsibility,” said Malcolm Wolter, Partner, VP Digital, BrandExtract. "The dynamically generated charts and graphs increase engagement as well."
The platform was developed in BrandExtract’s secure, browser-based content management system called SAM (Site Authoring and Maintenance). Extremely user-friendly, users can collect different pages of the online sustainability report, gathering the information that matters most to them in a PDF format.
The dynamic CSR report marks a cornerstone in BrandExtract’s 15-year partnership with Marathon Oil.
“We rebranded Marathon Oil in 2011, and we’ve worked with the company on its corporate social responsibility report for the last five years,” Wolter added.
“Marathon Oil is a globally recognized corporate citizen, so it’s exciting for us at BrandExtract that we’ve enabled the company to report sustainability performance with the highest standard of efficiency and accuracy.”
